Teaching Out

At this year’s conference we have added a new component to the conference called Teaching Out on Friday Afternoon, October 16. This roundtable will provide the opportunity for faculty and senior staff to share best practices and discuss common concerns we face as GLBT Educators and Allies.

The agenda will be set by the attendees who pre-register. Topics currently under consideration include:

  • Risks and Rewards of Coming Out in the Classroom – based on a session at the Academy of Management in Chicago in August of 2009
  • Tenure Discussions – strategies for what works from those who’ve achieved tenure
  • Breakthroughs in Journal Publication for GLBT Scholars – where to focus, where to avoid when trying to place research in publications
  • Overview of the Reaching Out MBA Case Library – now more than a dozen titles available for educators to use in a variety of disciplines

Beyond this one afternoon session you will be able to fully attend the rest of the conference as well. The student organizers would very much like to have several out faculty members attend, so are offering us the student rate ($75) for the conference as well as for the hotel ($149 per night).

Here are some ways you can get involved:

  • Register and attend at http://regonline.com/romba2009
  • Volunteer to lead or co-lead a portion of this inaugural event
