Q: Tell us a bit about your MBA experience and how ROMBA fit into it.
ROMBA was an integral part of my MBA journey. ROMBA provided a supportive community where I could connect with other LGBTQ+ MBA students and professionals. Through ROMBA, I went on a pre-MBA summer trek in Seattle, served as a Session Director and Student Organizer for the ROMBA MBA conference, and built some great friendships along the way. The mentorship and peer support from ROMBA were invaluable, offering guidance, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. These experiences not only enriched my MBA journey but also helped me build a strong network of contacts and allies, which has been beneficial in my career.
Q: Explain your career journey since graduating. Did ROMBA play a role in helping to get a job offer at all?
I pursued an MBA to advance my career in management consulting. Reaching Out MBA played a significant role in giving me the confidence and guidance to navigate my career more effectively. Through my Reaching Out network I gained a personal “board of directors” with supportive peers and mentors there to offer me guidance, support, and advice in my personal and professional life. As I navigate my career journey and advance to more senior leadership roles, this network has given me the perspective and courage to pursue my professional aspirations in a way that aligns with my values and commitment to our community.
Q: What advice would you be able to share with current LGBTQ+ MBA students?
To current LGBTQ+ MBA students, I encourage you to leverage your unique perspective and lived experiences as a strength. Build a strong network of allies and mentors who support and understand your journey. Take advantage of LGBTQ+ organizations and resources within your school, the Reaching Out networks, and the broader business community. Find opportunities to build relationships and give back to the community.
Q: As a student and alumni, you support the Reaching Out MBA’s Student Access Fund. Why do you believe it’s important to donate to the organization, if possible?
I support the Student Access Fund because it’s a great way to pay it forward and increase access to the transformative experiences that ROMBA offers. ROMBA has been such a positive force in my personal and professional journey, and it feels great to be able to offer that to others. Donating to the Student Access Fund can make a significant difference and invest in the future of our community.
