Opening Plenary: ROMBA 2020: Life through a New Lens

Kick off ROMBA 2020 with a discussion with C-suite executives David Galloreese (Wells Fargo) and Ben Hasan (Walmart) who will be interviewed by two ROMBA Fellows on shifts in the business landscape resulting from unique challenges we face in 2020, namely COVID-19 and systematic racism as highlighted by the Black Lives Matter movement. The session will include thoughts and guidance on about how to rethink the jobs market, being allies to the other underrepresented minorities, and navigating ROMBA with these things in mind.

Working overseas can open you up to new experiences both personally and professionally, and is a great way to set yourself apart from others. Whether you’re considering a career or a short-term assignment overseas, hear from those who have already taken the leap! They’ll answer you questions and discuss how they navigated being LGBT+ in work and life abroad while remaining true to themselves. We’ll also discuss how you can stay top of mind with those in the home office and position your time abroad for maximum professional effect.

Emotional Intelligence in Leadership

Emotional Intelligence, or “EQ,” is one of the most cited skills necessary to be a successful leader. It is also one of the most misunderstood phrase in the business lexicon. This session will focus on defining Emotional Intelligence, outlining its importance for good leadership, and helping you grow your personal emotional intelligence.

LGBT+ Club Leadership Meeting

Gather with other leaders from LGBT+ business school clubs to share thoughts on how to elevate your club’s presence on campus and in the larger community. Topics will include fundraising, engaging alumni and other affinity groups, and much more!

Crossroads of Identity: Race, Faith, Age, Citizenship

As workplaces continue to craft policies on equity, diversity, and inclusion, they mostly follow the ERG framework. However, ERGs can feel siloed and not reflective of the experiences of those with intersecting identities. This panel will discuss how organizations can fully support intersectionally-identified queer people, work across groups and encourage more informal allyship.

Managing Complexity

A leader is often called to make decisions in highly complex or ambiguous situations. What skills, practices, and tools can we use to manage complexity and be better decision-makers in difficult situations?

Company Presented Workshop: Compassionate Leadership in a Time of Crisis

While 2020 is abnormal in the number of macro-crises occurring, business leaders face crises constantly – from consolidating real estate and laying off workers, to dealing with disgruntled influencer customers, to employees displaced by natural disasters. It is not just CEOs that face and handle these crises – front-line leaders play the most critical role in ensuring their employees feel heard and supported. In this workshop, you’ll learn how Compassionate Leadership is displayed during crises (and how it’s not!) and have an opportunity to work in small groups to reflect upon how you would lead employees compassionately through an example crisis.
